About - Thomas Burkl

I am a nature lover, a daydreamer and a wanderer. I am also a lucky husband and the father of a gorgeous girl and a sweet little boy.

The natural world helps me find happiness. It helps me get back that energy that was sucked out of me during everyday life. I see photography as a mindfulness exercise. I enjoy gazing at my surroundings. I love squinting into the rising sun, listening to the sound of birds chirping at dawn, experiencing the earthy smell after a downpour as well as feeling the wind's gentle caress on my skin.

I would love to share with you the positive impact that nature has had on me. I hope that my photographs will inspire you to feel that great connection with nature.

I believe that there is more to life than problems, hassle and resignation. Of course, we all get held back by what I call the "framework of life". We worry about our children, our jobs and what others will think of us. My way of coping with these anxious thoughts is to concentrate on what I call the "other side": The beautiful, secret and mysterious wonders that make life worth living.

I am an optimistic person. I feel excited about the outdoor experience and about spending time with my young family. I want to express that we can find peace and happiness in a world that can at times feel cold, harsh or unfair and that true values still exist.

This quote from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry sums up how I see the world: "The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart."

The reason I go through a lot of effort to create my work is that it helps me feel alive. In the mountains, no one will tell me what I should think or do. Within nature, I can experience total freedom, and I would love others to feel that way too. In order for my work to be as authentic as possible, I always value experience over photography. If photography gets in the way of experience, I will give up on a photo opportunity.

When I was a little boy, my Dad often took me to the beautiful mountains of Southern Germany. Over the years, my love for nature became a real obsession. I grew up in a bilingual German and French family, and I have always travelled a lot. As a child, I spent my summers in the countryside of Southern France running around the vineyards surrounding our house.

I would love to know who you are, where you come from and what your interests are in life. You can also connect with me through my Facebook,Instagram and Pinterest  accounts.
